About

Who We Are

Red Pheasant is a proud Plains Cree First Nation located in the Eagle Hills, approximately 33 kilometers south of North Battleford, Saskatchewan.

With a registered population of over 2,700 members, we are a growing community dedicated to preserving our nēhiyaw (Cree) language and culture while pursuing progressive economic development to ensure a brighter future for the next generation.

Our History: A Legacy of Treaty 6

Our history is rooted in the resilience and wisdom of our ancestors. In 1876, the Red Pheasant Cree Nation became a signatory to Treaty 6.

Chief Wuttunee, who led our people at the time, appointed his brother, Chief Red Pheasant, to sign the treaty on behalf of the Band. Following the signing, our people settled in the fertile lands of the Eagle Hills in 1878, establishing a permanent home where we could maintain our traditional ways while adapting to agriculture.

For over a century, we have remained steadfast in upholding the spirit and intent of Treaty 6, protecting our Inherent and Treaty Rights for as long as the sun shines, the grass grows, and the rivers flow.

Leadership & Governance

Red Pheasant Cree Nation is governed by a Chief and Council elected by our membership. Our leadership is dedicated to transparent governance, strategic planning, and the holistic well-being of our community.

We are a member of the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs (BATC), working collectively with neighbouring Nations to deliver essential services in housing, health, education, and social development.

Economic Development: Sovereignty Through Self-Sufficiency

We are actively building a treaty-based economy that generates revenue, creates jobs, and fosters independence. Red Pheasant has been a leader in urban reserve development, expanding our economic footprint beyond our home reserve.

Key Initiatives:
Urban Reserve Development: We have successfully designated land within North Battleford as urban reserve, asserting our jurisdiction in the city.

Retail & Commercial Ventures: Our investments include the Eagles Landing retail plaza and partnerships in the fuel and service industries.

  • Resource Partnerships: We actively engage in partnerships that responsibly utilize our land and resources to benefit the community.
